“I broke my shoulder/humerus in three places skiing. It was a “bad break.” It happened on a Monday at about 11 a.m. in Summit County. By 4 p.m., I had been x-rayed and seen Dr. Mayo. By 6 p.m., I was having an MRI.
Results were pending, and we all expected that I would need surgery. The next day, Dr. Mayo’s careful analysis of the MRI revealed that I didn’t need surgery; I just needed to ensure that nothing moved. Weekly visits and x-rays with Dr. Mayo ensued. She gave me little physical therapy motions to do and carefully walked me through each x-ray result. I found her expertise and confidence helpful and reassuring. Plus, she’s just an interesting and nice person to have the privilege of spending time with. My shoulder/arm has reassembled itself quite nicely. And I am now working with physical therapy to regain my full range of motion.
The most meaningful moment was when I called driving back from the ski mountain in a fair bit of pain. They were fully booked that afternoon. I asked (no begged) the receptionist to go and ask the doctors if anyone could see me, even briefly. Dr. Mayo stepped up to the plate and probably worked longer than Monday evening as a result. I am forever grateful for that selfless gesture.
So there you have it. If you want a capable, intelligent, and kind person who can clearly communicate looking after you, then Dr. Mayo comes with my thumbs up!”

“Dr. Kollitz is not only a great surgeon, but she is also one of the more honest and direct people I've met. This is extremely important because my experience with doctors in the past is very hit or miss. There was no sugar-coating anything with her. I went in for surgery on my hand, and it ended up getting infected, likely from the original injury. So I went in for two more surgeries, one to remove the infection and re-connect the tendon from the original injury. Thanks to Dr. Kollitz, I now have a functional hand, and I am playing music again! All the staff around that facility were kind and helpful, and I hope I don't ever need to have surgery like this again, but if I do, this would be the place I would choose to go!”
