At BoulderCentre for Orthopedics, we are dedicated to offering the latest and most advanced treatments and procedures. That’s why we offer stem cell injections, also known as bone marrow concentrate therapy, a nonsurgical treatment method used to treat certain soft tissue injuries and conditions. Found in your bone marrow, adult stem cells are able to become several different kinds of cells, such as bone, muscle, tendon, and blood cells. However, with age or injury, bodies sometimes do not get enough stem cells to the area in need of repair. Stem cell procedures help circumvent this issue by delivering a high concentration of stem cells precisely into the injured area, aiding your body’s natural ability to heal.
In a stem cell injection, stem cells will be extracted from your own bone marrow. The extracted stem cells will then be concentrated for the injection sample. Once the sample is prepared, it must then be precisely injected into the target tissue at the injury site. Once injected, the stem cells may help to heal your injury or condition by directly stimulating the growth of healthy, strong tissues. As the tissues repair, grow stronger, and become more capable of carrying out their tasks, the pain is alleviated.
After the procedure, the injection site and surrounding area may require protection for a short amount of time. You may also require bracing or crutches for a short duration in order to avoid disturbing the stem cells because it is important for the stem cells to stay in the injured area in order for them to properly perform their function. Patients typically resume activity after little time and are often able to avoid the long and painful rehabilitation periods that can be associated with surgery.
Stem cell therapy can be used to treat many injuries and conditions, including:
- ACL sprains and tears
- Articular cartilage injuries
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Degenerative disc disease
- Degenerative joint disease
- Herniated discs
- Labral tears
- Partial rotator cuff tears
- Pinched nerves
- Trigger fingers
