My Comeback Story: Susan P.
In my garden on September 14, 2025, I got tangled with an unbalanced wheelbarrow that flipped sideways and threw me to the pavement with it. Ow! The nurse at Erie Medical Center's Urgent Care saw the X-rays and then called BoulderCentre for Orthopedics & Spine before sending me to an ER, and Dr. Jon Hammarstedt, whom the nurse had spoken with, made time to see me the next day. He explained treatment options thoroughly and, even though I had walked into the facility pretty set against surgery, he showed me all the information I needed to make an informed decision -- including broken bone x-rays and reasons why some breaks needed surgery and others did not. By the end of the consultation, I had complete faith that this small, strong, thin plate screwed into the reset radial bone would yield the best long-term results. The surgery was the next morning! I had great care, and felt pampered in pre- and post-op. Physical Therapy began 2 weeks after surgery so that movement and scar tissue mitigation could start, and I followed the regimen for the 10 sessions covered by insurance, seeing Dr. Hammarstedt 3 times in that period. I quickly grew more accustomed to the broken hand. The bone was healed within 3 months, after which I could do everything I'd been doing before the accident, with only rare twinges indicating the tissues were "remodeling" themselves. Dr. Hammarstedt was happy to see me twice more after that to answer questions and give encouragement. He is a gem —professional yet very serious about his work, relaxed, and willing to respond promptly to emails and in-office questions and requests. He has a superior sense of what language to use so that his patient hears and accepts his counsel. A thank you also goes to Katie and others at the front desk and to Courtney and Lindsey, who "worked me over" in PT (really, it was just the right level of pushing to the edge and also soothing with warm wax and massage). They are friendly, laugh easily, and know what they're doing. They made the sessions fly by. I would recommend this center to anyone.
