My Comeback Story: Cindy D.

Cindy D.
From moving in pain to relearning to move without pain

I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my right hip, which was preventing normal movement in my right hip, leg, and back. I developed some great ways to compensate, but in the long term, this caused many muscles to not work correctly. The surgery went well, and I was home the same day as the surgery. My hip replacement gave me an anatomically correct hip and no more joint pain, and necessitated that the muscles in my hip, leg, foot, and back relearn how to move with this new hip. I’m now almost six months into recovery and back to working my horse on the ground, continuing to improve muscle strength through walking, elliptical, and exercise bands, and flexibility with floor exercises. I have a great body worker who has extensive experience in rehab who I continue to work with every 3 weeks. The path to recovery has been up and down, but when I look back to the few months before surgery, the pain and inability to even walk up steps without pain, I’ve come a long way out of pain and into regaining movement that was lost before surgery. I’m looking forward to riding my horse again this summer, longer walks and hikes, and continued regaining of better movement patterns and muscle strength.
